DIVERSE LEARNING

Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Primary School is committed to assisting and supporting students with diverse learning needs through the provision of specialised teaching ad support staff, adaptive teaching and learning resources and individualised adjustments to earning programs to best cater for individual student needs.

Our Diverse Learning Coordinator assists teachers to differentiate teaching programs, develop individual adjustment plans (IAPs), develop resources, liaise with health professionals, and support students and parents.

As a Systemic school we are supported by the Diocesan office and have access to leaders of learning who can assist the school with enrolment and access for students.

Our school is inclusive of all students within a mainstream  setting and we have a range of programs that support student learning and provide access to the learning continuum.

Specialist programs include:

  • Diverse Learning Needs
  • Targeted Intervention
  • MultiLit Tutors
  • High potential and Gifted Education (Naturally Embedded)
  • Hearing and Vision Support
  • Special Education Learning Support Assistants
  • Links to Allied Health Professionals

Please contact the Principal should you require more information or would like support with enrolment. School visits can also be arranged if you would like to view our facilities.

STUDENT WELLBEING

At Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Primary School we endeavour to promote a healthy supportive and secure environment for all children. We believe that Pastoral Care should foster growth of the individual to reach their full potential. It should reflect the Catholic ethos of individuals caring for and respecting each other. Student wellbeing is a shared responsibility between the home, school and the community. The school has implemented programs to encourage positive social behaviours  and problem-solving skills.

These programs include:

  • School Counselling Program
  • Buddy program for students in Kindergarten and Grade 6
  • Anti-Bullying initiatives and Cyber Safety
  • Student awards
  • Positive reward systems
  • Leadership program
  • Positive Behaviour for Learning initiatives (PBL)
  • Wellbeing Week

BUDDY PROGRAM

At Our lady of Dolours our Buddy Program supports new students in Kindergarten to feel safe and connected as they start school. All students in Kindergarten are matched with a student in Grade 6 at the start of the school year. Activities are organised between the two grades (Kindergarten and Grade 6) throughout the yea on a regular basis as the children develop a supported relationship and enjoy each other’s company.

The Aims of our program are:

  • To build self esteem
  • Promote acceptance of all students
  • Promote fun and love of learning
  • Give the seniors opportunity to mentor and lead by example
  • Create a sense of community across all grades

WELLBEING WEEK

Each team the school participates in Wellbeing Week during Week 7 of the term. The aim of this initiative is to assist all our community to sustain their health, energy and promote the practice of looking after your own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.

During Wellbeing Week our students and staff participate in activities together during class and play time. There is an initiative or theme each term such as skipping, elastics, soccer and a teacher student challenge to end the week.

Typically during wellbeing week, we do not schedule meeting, provide some wellbeing based activities for homework and there are many fun activities held at school to enhance the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of all our students and staff.
